A group of students took the bus along with our professors from Bucknell to the JFK airport in New York. We took the bus early Wednesday, June 4, at 1:30 a.m., to be exact. Many of us didn't sleep, we waited for the time to leave to sleep on the bus. The ride over was bumpy. It was raining and so it was a bumpy ride to New York, but we made it to the airport on time, safe and sound.
We flew to Puerto Rico and from Puerto Rico to St. Thomas. Once we got to St. Thomas we were picked up by two taxis that drove us to a harbor that seemed to be on the other side of town. At the harbor we all boarded a ferry and headed for St. John where we would begin our Marine Biology class first thing the next day.
The ferry ride was amazing! It was my first time on the ferry and it was my first time seeing beautiful clear blue water. It was really breathtaking. For a moment there, I had to sit and think about where I was because it seemed unreal. I was full of smiles that morning. As I sat in the ferry many people began putting on sun block, I soon joined them. That marked the beginning of an annoying routine of always applying sun block, seriously...always!
When we got to St. John, once again the surroundings were incredibly beautiful. I couldn't believe this would be my home for the eight days. It was truly unbelievable. When we left the ferry, we took another taxi that drove everyone to the campground where we would be staying. The campground was nothing like I had imagined it. In fact it was very different, yet different wasn't always a bad thing if anything it was good. I was in a different place and environment, it was all part of the learning experience and so the difference was good. Once we got the key to our cabin I quickly settled in and headed to Cinnamon Bay....
