After a whirlwind of airports, planes, and grumpy customs officials, I've made it back home!
The past 24 hours have been a blur. I started on my homeward journey at 10:30 at night on Wednesday, and got home at 1:30 in the morning ... on that same Wednesday. Time travel is pretty cool, no? Luckily I slept through most of the flights, so it wasn't too terrible.
For the past three weeks, I've been traveling through the South Island and for the last four days of my trip I was in Fiji. I've gone skydiving, bungy jumping (twice), skinny dipping, snorkeling, and scuba diving. We hiked the Kepler Track, one of the "Great Walks" of New Zealand, and kayaked along Abel Tasman, one of the most beautiful coastal routes in the world. I swam in pristine tropical waters and ate ripe mangoes straight from the tree. I met people from France, Germany, and England. I even went really crazy and got my ear cartilage pierced in Auckland (just for the record, my mom has one too, so I knew she couldn't get mad at me for doing it).
It's weird to be back in this Land of the Fast-Paced with massive highways and cars that drive on the right side of the road. I almost feel like things have changed here, even though they haven't. I'm the one who's different. Still, though, it's good to be home.
Tomorrow I'm going with my parents to visit Bucknell, and I'm really excited! We're going to see the Candlelight ceremony, and I'll get to watch my choir perform. That will be fun, to actually get to listen to the Rooke Chapel Singers for once instead of being up there with them. Even though classes next semester are going to be really hard, I can't wait to get back into it. It's weird to say this, but I've really missed school and Bucknell in general.
Here are some pictures from the past few weeks -- the really cold snowy ones are from the Kepler track!
I swear the snow was blowing up the mountain. Caitlin even got blown off the track, but luckily we weren't near any sharp drops. After three days of eight-hour hikes, we were pretty happy to have finished the track! View over Queenstown from the gondola (going up to bungy jump) Bungy jumping!!! The adrenaline rush afterward was so amazing! I found the macro setting on my camera and got really excited... Sunset at a beach in Haast. View from a stop we made while driving. These cows came out of nowhere and just started running past our car. It was kinda scary, but mostly just weird. Beautiful Abel Tasman! That's the plane I jumped out of! KC and me with our skydiving instructors. Sunset in Auckland, the capital of NZ. I actually climbed trees to get these mangoes A Fijian village. The local village came to perform for us. They sang and danced, and we joined in. It was so much fun!
