Faculty: VHS Weeding at the Library

Dear Faculty,

Greetings from the Library! I hope you are enjoying the early days of Summer! If you've walked by the video collection on the main level of Bertrand lately you may have noticed a large concentration of purple weeding slips attached to many VHS tapes and wondered what was going on.

We've marked every VHS tape that hasn't circulated in the last five years with a purple slip, signifying that we're considering it for withdrawal from the collection. Given that very few students actually have VHS players, and balk at using VHS tapes, we thought this was a good opportunity to review our video collection and get rid of unused materials housed on an increasingly obsolete format.

We need your help in determining which of the flagged videos need to be retained. Are there items that you consider to be vital to your field, or that are irreplaceable? If so, please mark the purple slips with your reasoning for retaining the items. Your input is indispensable to this process, so please try to find some time between now and fall break to review these videos.

The videos will remain as-is on the shelf until the end of summer school, at which point they will be relocated to a room on Lower Level One until Fall Break (and then withdrawn). The items will remain in the catalog until the end of the process, so if you can't find something on the shelf after summer school, please ask at the Reference Desk for help in locating your item.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Jason Snyder or Martha Holland.
