Faculty and Staff: Goodbye, Eudora! Hello Outlook and Apple Mail.

As many of you know, support and development for the Eudora email
application was officially discontinued some time ago. Since then
Bucknell (along with numerous other higher ed institutions) has been
implementing other client email management solutions.

If you are still using Eudora, now is an excellent time of year to say
"Goodbye."

For Windows, Outlook has been chosen as the logical fit for faculty
and staff Windows clients. As a matter of fact, many of us have
already made the transition (and lived to tell about it!).

We have scheduled numerous opportunities to not only arrange the
transition from Eudora to Outlook, but also provide you with timely
and insightful training so you won't miss a step in the daily
management of your email. To sign up for this convenient yet awesome
opportunity, please visit:

http://www.bucknell.edu/script/ISR/Workshops/Register.asp?EventID=128

What about Mac users? We're here to help you too by transitioning you
to Apple Mail. It is very similar to Eudora in many ways, and
better. To arrange for your exciting transition, please contact
Library and IT Tech Support directly at techdesk@bucknell.edu or by
calling 7-7777 to schedule an appointment.

Eudora...parting is, indeed, such sweet sorrow.

New Book Exhibits in the Library

The next time you're in the library, be sure to check out the interesting new book displays around the central staircase on the main level. There you will find themed displays highlighting lesser known items from our collection. Towards the back of the staircase, you will find the summer themed display of gardening books. Feel free to check them out and learn how to enhance your home's greenery!

The other new display is a selection of books highlighting our juvenile collection. Each year, we collect the Newbery and Caldecott award winning children's books, and they are held in our juvenile collection on Lower Level One.

If you have any suggestions for further displays, please stop by the circulation desk!

Special Collections - Holiday Closing

Special Collections/University Archives will be closed on Friday, July 4.

Faculty: VHS Weeding at the Library

Dear Faculty,

Greetings from the Library! I hope you are enjoying the early days of Summer! If you've walked by the video collection on the main level of Bertrand lately you may have noticed a large concentration of purple weeding slips attached to many VHS tapes and wondered what was going on.

We've marked every VHS tape that hasn't circulated in the last five years with a purple slip, signifying that we're considering it for withdrawal from the collection. Given that very few students actually have VHS players, and balk at using VHS tapes, we thought this was a good opportunity to review our video collection and get rid of unused materials housed on an increasingly obsolete format.

We need your help in determining which of the flagged videos need to be retained. Are there items that you consider to be vital to your field, or that are irreplaceable? If so, please mark the purple slips with your reasoning for retaining the items. Your input is indispensable to this process, so please try to find some time between now and fall break to review these videos.

The videos will remain as-is on the shelf until the end of summer school, at which point they will be relocated to a room on Lower Level One until Fall Break (and then withdrawn). The items will remain in the catalog until the end of the process, so if you can't find something on the shelf after summer school, please ask at the Reference Desk for help in locating your item.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Jason Snyder or Martha Holland.

New Current Reading Collection in the Library

Looking for a good book to take along on your vacation or read while you are stretched out on your hammock this summer? The Bertrand Library is pleased to announce a new leisure reading collection. The new Current Reading Collection (CRC) offers more than 400 fiction and non-fiction titles--many of them on various lists of bestsellers. The CRC Books are available to all borrowers for a three-week loan period. This collection is leased to the library (vs. permanently acquired) so that we can provide bestsellers in a timely and cost-effective manner. Each month a selection of titles will be returned to the provider and new titles added. We encourage our borrowers to suggest titles/authors to request for the collection. We invite all Bucknell borrowers to visit the library and browse this new collection, located in the rear of the Main Level near the cafe tables.
