The day I leave for Nicaragua!

Well, I can't really believe it, but today is the day I leave for Nicaragua with the Bucknell Brigade. The past few days have been hectic with track practice and preparing for the trip, but now I think I am ready to go. I am really excited to get to El Porvenir because my senior design project is to create a water-pumping system for the community and I have been working on it all Fall semester.

So, as far as expectations go, I have definitely gained a new perspective on Nicaragua by reading Nicaragu: Living in the shadow of the eagle over the past few weeks. I realize that the typical Nicaraguan will probably look at me with disgust just because I am American and I will have to deal with that. Hopefully, everyone we meet there will gain a new perspective on America because I know the Brigade is full of great people. I am also anxious to get to El Porvenir and hike up the mountain. Julie Jakoboski, Meghan Feller, and myself are all working on creating a water pipeline that will travel up the mountain to the community on top. Therefore, we plan to hike up the mountain and plot out a couple preliminary routes to take. This is extremely exciting because it is a culmination of my work all first semester as well as a beginning to the challenges I will face next semester while trying to finalize a design. I am pumped to get going and see some new places and meet new people! In just a day I will be there - crazy!
