We've made it to Nicaragua!! I am so excited to be back in this amazing country with the amazing people here! Our flight down went relatively smoothly minus a one-hour delay so that the starter on our plane could be fixed.
We arrived in Managua, the capital of Nicaragua, and boarded the great yellow bus to drive to the compound where we stay with Jubilee House Community (JHC). Unlike last time I was in Nicaragua, the bus ride to JHC was during the day time and I was able to look around and see the bustle and hustle of the Nicaraguans. There was crazy traffic, just like last time, and the vendors were all over the streets selling food, water, and other items. It was a very exciting bus ride!
When we arrived at JHC, we had a quick orientation to the dorm where we sleep. It was amazing to see how similar the dorm looks to last time I was here. The only differences are the new second story where we can hang out during free time and the continuous water source. This is especially exciting because it means we have water for showering and brushing our teeth AND we don't have to go fill a bucket to flush the toliets every time we go to the bathroom!
There are also two monkeys that were not here two years ago. One of them is mean so we don't get to see him but the other monkey, Bella, is very friendly and rumor has it that she enjoys sitting on people's laps for petting!
Many things haven't changed though, like the rule that we cannot throw toliet paper into the toliets. If you do, you have to go fishing!
Dinners are also as delicious as I remember! They are one of my most favorite things about being here! The communal bunk room is still crowded and cozy. There are about 15 bunk beds for all of us in one room. We also still have to check our shoes every time we put them on for scorpions and spiders ... exciting!
Tomorrow is a full work day and I am excited to start getting my hands dirty! Good night :)
