Saturday morning

A still morning, with a rare rain.

It's early Saturday morning, and us old folks are up, moving slowly. The students will be waking shortly, breakfast soon thereafter. A steady light rain has moved in, very rare in this dry season (even rarer than a mid-March snowstorm in Lewisburg).

The clinic dedication yesterday afternoon was memorable. Spanning more than three hours outdoors in what must have been 100-degree heat, the spectacle of the festivities contrasted starkly with the intense poverty of the town. The dedication featured musicians (including a marching percussion band in full dress whites), four dancers/dance groups with our own Professor Kelly Knox participating (photos to follow), and well over a hundred townspeople in attendance.

Following a dinner of rice casserole and coleslaw, we spent the evening dancing in Managua. We also met up with one of our mechanical engineering seniors last night; he has been here for more than a week working on a separate project involving the installation of solar power units in another town.

All are healthy here, and in very good spirits. The group will arrive back at Bucknell early Monday morning, ready for classes a few hours after that. This has been a memorable experience for our students, and their actions and interactions have been of the highest caliber.

The monkey continues trying to enter the dormitory this morning. She will succeed in time. She is much like the people here in her quiet persistence and ingenuity.
