I spent this afternoon translating for Dr. Stechschulte in the clinic. It was my first experience in the clinic and it was such a great experience.
We saw many patients, mostly children. Sometimes a mother would come in with two sick children and herself. Everyone was so patient even though they had been waiting for a long time. It was so hard to see all of the sick children especially since a great number of them had parasites. The most trying moment was when we found out that the pharmacy had run out of children's vitamins.
Everyone seemed so grateful for anything that we could give them. Several explained that they had been to the community hospital but were unable to afford the medicines prescribed to them. The fact that the clinic in Nueva Vida can provide free care and medicine is amazing, especially when you see the conditions under which these people are living. This way, they do not have to suffer in going without medications they need desperatly.
Everything so far has been incredible. I hope I continue to have chances to interact with the Nicaraguans.
